An Atlantic City man finds himself behind bars after cops say he robbed a convenience store at knife point.

22-year-old Jermaine Whitehurst has been charged with robbery, witness tampering, terroristic threats, theft, unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, obstruction of justice, and resisting arrest.

According to the Atlantic City Police Department, at about 2:30 Tuesday afternoon, officers responded to the Super Mini Mart in the 2300 block of Atlantic Avenue, at the corner of Mississippi Avenue, for a panic alarm. Arriving officers learned that the store clerk had been robbed at knifepoint. Police say the suspect, later identified as Whitehurst, "stole money and other items and used tape from the store to bind the clerk’s hands together before fleeing."

Police located Whitehurst in the 2000 block of Bacharach Boulevard and a chase ensued. Several officers were able to eventually catch Whitehurst and he was arrested.

Authorities say Whitehurst was in possession of the items he stole from the store and a large knife. While running from officers, Whitehurst threw a roll of tape which was recovered.

Whitehurst was remanded to the Atlantic County Justice Facility.

Charges are mere accusations and the accused are considered innocent until proven guilty.
