Hurricane Sandy has left thousands of us in South Jersey with flood clean-up work to do in our homes or businesses.  As the veteran of several floods in my lifetime (not something I'm proud of, just a sad fact), I can tell you that your flood clean-up job needs to be done as quickly, safely and thoroughly as possible.  Even these few days residents or business owners along the barrier islands are losing while we wait for the evacuation to end are a dangerous breeding time for mold and a host of other problems and concerns.

Of course, if you haven't seen your flooded home yet, it's impossible to know for certain what measures you'll have to take to fit it.  But you can familiarize yourself now with the common problems encountered in these situations and the steps you will need to take to get your home back to normal as soon as possible.

Here is an excellent guide to flooding problems and solutions from Atlantic County Health Services.  Good luck  to us both, fellow flood-ee!
