Absecon Police Issue Alert After Rash of Car Burglaries

A recent string of car burglaries has lead Absecon Police to issue a reminder about reporting any suspicious activities you witness and using common sense precautions like locking your car doors.

Police say they have received reports of 14 car burglaries over the past two months, mostly to cars left unlocked. They feel the number is probably higher, because many people don't bother to report a car burglary if nothing significant is stolen.

Items that have been recently stolen from the vehicles include coins, cash, checks, medications, identification, credit cards, cell phones, car keys, house keys, pocketbooks, and wallets. We have even had a vehicle stolen from someone’s driveway after they left it unlocked with the keys inside. Many of our victims have had their credit/bank cards stolen and used before they even knew they were missing.

Absecon Police remind you that by reporting a possible car burglary, you help police determine a possible pattern and to try to obtain surveillance footage in the area in an attempt to identify the suspect(s).
