Every Thursday morning at 7:15am on the Lite Rock Morning Show, the Humane Society of Ocean City brings in the new Lite Rock Pet of the Week.

If you are thinking about adding a pet to your family, please consider adopting from the Humane Society of Ocean City, a no-kill shelter recognized as one of the nation’s top ten animal shelters.

All of the animals are spayed/neutered, vaccinated and micro-chipped before adoption. All animals also receive an Alumni Card which entitles them to a 10% lifetime discount for veterinary services at the Humane Society of Ocean City clinic.

This week we met “Abbey" the dog....

Here is some information on Abbey from the Humane Society of Ocean City:

“Abbey will be  2 years-old on March 27, 2017.  She is a (S) female St. Bernard mix. Abbey arrived at the HSOC on February 18th.  She is a large dog, 90+ lbs, and has lots of furriness to her traditional ruddy-colored coat.

Abbey is a happy pooch who is highly energetic and needs LOTS of exercise. She loves to run and play, especially with toys she can toss around, such as jolly-balls and stuffed things. Abbey loves to have her belly rubbed and sometimes thinks she is a lap dog. She is an affectionate doggie and gives all manner of doggie hugs and kisses to her friends!
Abbey is highly intelligent and learns quickly with reward-based training programs, in just two weeks, she already has an okay grasp on: sit, down, stay, heel, & is learning to walk politely on a leash.
Abbey can be timid with new people, and needs to have continued socialization training after her adoption. Please don’t misunderstand, she hasn’t a mean bone in her body—but she is a bit intimidated by new people.

Abbey is house-broken and crate-trained. She needs to be the only dog, probably no cats either. Abbey is okay around children in general, but due to the combination of her size, certain breed traits (St. Bernard’s are guard dogs), and current timidity towards strangers, she is unsuitable for a home with small children. If you would like to meet Abbey, please call the HSOC any day between 11am-3pm to set an appointment."

If you would like to visit Abbey or need more information about any animal up for adoption at The Humane Society of Ocean City, call 609-398-9500 or stop in any day between 11a-3p.To adopt from the HSOC you will need one form of identification, which includes your name, permanent address and proof of ownership (i.e., local tax stub). If you rent, written approval from your landlord is required as well as personal identification. The adoption fee is $50.00 for cats or kittens and $85 for dogs, adults and puppies.

They accept cash, Visa, MasterCard, Discover and debit cards. Checks are accepted upon management’s approval. All adoptions include spay/neuter surgery, microchip if requested, free first vet exam, and all necessary vaccinations through the first year. Adoption applications are available at the shelter.

Here's a little video from Abbey's visit to the Lite Rock Morning Show. We had to cut the video short when Abbey ...well, you'll see.
