Keeping yourself warm and toasty can actually help you avoid the flu, coughs, and colds. When you shiver you depress your immune system.

Wash your hands as often as possible. Germs can be transmitted by physical contact. They can enter the body when your hands become infected and you touch your eyes, mouth or nose.

Doctors suggest you drink at least eight glasses of water a day. This will help flush the toxins out of your body.

You become more susceptible to infection when you don't get enough shut eye. At least 7 hours of sleep is recommended.

Taking a multi-vitamin daily is important. Zinc helps build up your immune system and taking small amounts of garlic may decrease the chances of getting a cold or the flu.
