This has become the worst flu season in over twenty years.   Many facilities  including some hospitals and local pharmacies have been running out of vaccinations. In Atlantic County, flu shots for a fee will be available between 9 a.m. and noon Monday to Friday at the Stillwater Building in Northfield while supplies last.

What can you do to help protect your family and yourself? Here are five easy basic tips that will help.

1. Get a flu shot

If you haven’t already it’s not too late. he most effective protection against the flu is immunization, according to health experts, who stress it is not too late to get the vaccine if you can find it. Flu season runs through March 31, and the flu shot provides immunity within 14 days of vaccination.

2.  Be sensible

Being sensible means not trying to keep going when your body is telling you to stop. When you feel that maybe you need to take the day off and stay home and rest, then follow your head. This is something I need to do more often.

3. Practice good health

Follow some basic rules to keep yourself healthy and less vulnerable to colds and the flu. Don’t smoke, and reduce alcohol consumption to help your immune system.

4. Disinfect

Wash your hands and keep your work area sanitized too!

5. Don’t touch your face

This is the easiest way for the germs to get into your system. People don’t realize how often their hands touch their face and each touch is an opportunity for germs to attack.

Good Luck on staying healthy this flu season!
