Missing sleep is nothing to yawn about. Did you know that lack of sleep can lead to problems with attention and concentration, dementia and an increased risk of heart disease.

If you feel wide awake when you get in bed, you have company. About 60 million Americans report having trouble getting to sleep. If racing thoughts keep you up, consider jotting down what's on your mind before you hit the sack.

Writing things down and making a to-do list can give you more clarity and help you release worrying or nagging thoughts.

Some other tips to get to sleep easier:

  • Take a warm bath or shower
  • Do some deep breathing by inhaling through your nose and then exhaling slowly through your mouth.
  • Hide your clock. Constantly checking the time puts more pressure on you to fall asleep.
