Please leave your hoverboard at home. That seems to be the message you will be hearing when you visit the Wildwood Boardwalk this summer.

The Wildwood City Commission will consider a ban this week on the two-wheeled motorized scooters inspired by the Back to the Future movies. It appears likely that the Commission will support the ban.

According to the Press of Atlantic City, Commissioner Anthony Leonetti questions the safety of hoverboards and is concerned about the possibility of an overheated hoverboard battery catching fire on the Wildwood Boardwalk.

He tells the Press of Atlantic City, “We’re worried about burning our Boardwalk down,” he said. “We get a fire on that dry wood up there and we’re in trouble.”

The Press of Atlantic City also notes Wildwood Mayor Ernie Troiano, Jr.'s objections to the hoverboards.

“All you need is someone to get hurt,” he said. “I hate to tell you how many trip-and-fall lawsuits we’ve had. We live in a litigious society. People sue at the drop of a dime. Nobody is responsible for their actions anymore. It’s got to be someone else’s fault.”

While we don't want to ruin anyone's good time, this one just seems like common sense for the Wildwood Commissioners.

Riding your hoverboard on the boardwalk in the dead of February might not bother anyone, but the idea of hoverboards mixing with the foot, tramcar and bike traffic on the Wildwood Boardwalk during the busy summer season seems like an accident waiting to happen.
