Not only do specialty pharmacies specialize in specific medications, they also work to educate patients, coordinate care, and manage inefficiencies related to costs. The  pharmacist and patient are much more closely connected and work in collaboration with each other.

In general, medications that are handled by specialty pharmacies are higher in costs and specialty pharmacies work to make medications more affordable for patients, doctors, and insurance providers.
