Have you ever wondered what's in a name? It's time to go behind the name of one of the most beloved towns in the Garden State.

According to Wikipedia, Wildwood officially became a borough in Spring 1895. The name Wildwood reflected the wild flowers in the area. There are four communities that have Wildwood as part of their name, Wildwood Crest, West Wildwood, North Wildwood, and Wildwood.

The town did not start to thrive and become one of the most famous resorts until the 50's, all thanks to the construction of the Garden State Parkway in 1955. Construction of over 200 motels were finished at the height of the Doo-Wop era back in the mid to late fifties.

Wildwood claims credit for being the birthplace of Rock-N-Roll since Bill Haley and The Comets performed the first Rock-N-Roll record, 'Rock Around The Clock', in the summer of 1954 at a hotel in Wildwood.

Wildwood also has special memories for me personally. I've spent plenty of summers staying in Wildwood as a child, and as a dad with my two boys. My boys could spend all day and all night on the famous boardwalk.

Take a trip back and see some of the most popular Wildwood motels when Doo Wop was king.

The very first Rock-N-Roll record, 'Rock Around The Clock'.
