New Jersey has just been ranked in a recent poll for states paying the highest taxes, and the results may surprise you.

In a recent study from  247wallst.com , New Jersey is not the worst state in the U.S. when it comes to paying Uncle Sam. The dubious distinction of being the worst state for taxes in America belongs to New York, followed by the state of Connecticut which comes in at number 2.

It's all not good news for the Garden State. New Jersey is the third worst tax state in the country. Not surprising, we have the highest property taxes in the entire country, and we come in at number 3 in percentage of income paid for taxes, and number 3 for state and local taxes. Rounding out the Top 5 for states paying the highest taxes are Wisconsin and Illinois.

If you're not a fan of paying big when it comes to taxes, (and who is) you could consider a move to Alaska, the lowest taxed state in the nation, followed by South Dakota and Wyoming. I wouldn't last a winter in any of these states. So, I guess there's no way to avoid paying the high taxes that comes with living in New Jersey.
