This upcoming weekend marks the unofficial start to summer in the Garden State. It also marks the opening of cash boxes at beaches along the Jersey Shore looking to grab some of your dough before you step on the sand.

Here are the daily and seasonal badge prices for some of New Jersey's most popular beaches, according to the municipalities' web sites.

Asbury Park

  • Daily - $5 weekdays, $7 weekends
  • Seasonal - $70 regular, $20 for senior citizens and ages 13-17

Avalon

  • Daily - $6
  • Weekly - $12
  • Seasonal - $22 through May 31, $27 after

Beach Haven

  • Daily - $5

  • Seasonal - $40

Belmar

Atlantic City, Strathmere and the Wildwoods offer free access to the beach.

Many towns have had seasonal beach badge sales going on since winter, promoting them as a unique stocking stuffer during the holidays. Some have introduced smartphone apps devoted to preseason purchases.

Many beaches offer free admission to active members of the military and their families.
