Thanks to the 5th grade teacher Gina Sharpley and Principal Kevin Burns from Emma C. Attales Middle School in Absecon for inviting me to the fifth grade's "Thank You" event for students with good grades, attendance and behavior last Friday.

The Attales fifth graders tied the event in to Lite Rock's Valentines for the Troops and made over 400 handmade Valentines for our effort to send love to soldiers deployed in countries around the world for Valentine's Day.

The students recorded this Valentine's greeting...

While the kids were making their homemade valentines, one student got the surprise of the year.

Rachael Platt, a fifth grader at Emma C Attales Middle School in Absecon, was surprised by her father “Tiger” Platt, a member of the Air Force Reserve, who wasn’t due home for another couple of weeks. He said they had been FaceTiming each other and he kept telling her he’d see her in a few weeks.

Watch video of Air Force Reservist Platt's reunion with his daughter Rachael.
