Vineland High Coach Suspended for ‘Inappropriate Incident’ With Player

The Vineland High School's boys basketball coach has been suspended after an alleged "inappropriate incident" with a member of his team, according to school district officials.

Albert Porter, who is also a social studies teacher at Vineland High, was suspended from both positions Friday, according to school district spokeswoman Gia Messore. It is his second suspension from the team in two months, according to The Daily Journal of Vineland.

"We are still gathering information so there is not a whole lot we can say right now," Messore said Tuesday. The suspension came after school officials were notified of "an inappropriate incident between him (Porter) and the athlete."

Asked whether the alleged incident was sexual in nature, Messore said the district could not comment because the investigation into what happened is ongoing and Vineland Police would be involved.

Porter was suspended previously from the team for an incident in December described as a personnel matter.

This is Porter first season as the high school boys’ basketball coach, but he has been involved in coaching youth leagues in Vineland for some time.

Porter was the Vineland High School South Teacher of the Year in 2012. His current salary is $83,899.
