Before we officially kickoff Summer 2016 on the Jersey Shore, let's flashback to Atlantic City during summer of 1901.

Back in 1901, Teddy Roosevelt became President of the United States following the assassination of President William McKinley, Major League Baseball was born, the New York Stock Exchange crashes, and one of the worst heat waves in U.S. history sweeps the East.

Take a look how the AC beach looked during a sweltering day in August of that same year. Clearly the sandy shoreline is jammed with people trying to escape the heat. I'm surprised at just how many people are walking around in bathing suits!

According to AC link.org,  early bathing suits consisted of wool flannel with stockings, canvas shoes, and large straw hats. Censors actually looked for people who showed more skin than the local code allowed. I never would of survived the beach in 1901. Just the crowd alone would have been enough for me.

Check out the video and take a trip back to the turn of the 20th Century!
