Ventnor Baby Girl Dies
A 7-month-old Ventnor girl, who had been hospitalized since Sunday, January 3rd, died Friday.
The infant had been found unconscious and unresponsive in her Monmouth Avenue home, following a 9-1-1 call. Emergency personnel used CPR, then transported the girl to the AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center—City Division She was later transferred to St. Christopher’s Hospital for Children in Philadelphia.
It's alleged that the baby's mother had rolled onto the infant, causing strangulation.
According to Atlantic County Prosecutor Jim McClain,
Lisa M. Scalia, 30, was charged with Endangering the Welfare of a Child—a crime of the 2nd degree, and four counts of Possession of Controlled dangerous Substances: Suboxone, oxycodone, heroin, and Lyrica. Scalia was arrested and lodged in the Atlantic County Justice Facility on $100,000 full cash bail set by Municipal Court Judge Mary C. Siracusa. The State alleges that Scalia, while being under the influence of narcotics, rolled onto the baby causing her injury.
The investigation is continuing, and additional charges may be filed.
