Atlantic City Police officer Josh Vadall is improving after being shot in the head while trying to stop an armed robbery over the weekend in the city.

According to the Philadelphia Inquirer, Vadell, 29, gave a thumbs-up from his bed at AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center-City Division.

The Inquirer quotes sources who say Vadell, a nine-year veteran of the force, and his wife Laura are expecting a baby and that Laura Vadell is eight-months pregnant.

Officials said Vadell is in critical but stable condition.

The shootout occurred around 2:30 a.m. Saturday after Vadell and his partner, both in uniform, observed a robbery involving six men near the Caesars Atlantic City parking garage on Arkansas Avenue.

Vadell was shot after he got out of his marked cruiser.

Vadell’s partner shot and killed one of the suspects, identified as Jerome Damon, 25, of Camden.

Two other men — Mar-tell Chisholm, 19, of Millville and Demetrius Cross, 28, of Bridgeton were arrested by police Saturday. The other three men involved in the robbery were the victims of the crime.

On Monday,  Local 24 of the Atlantic City Policeman’s Benevolent Association, announced the creation of a GoFundMe account to help the Vadell family.
