Atlantic City could see a fifth casino close just weeks before the holidays if its main union does not drop an appeal of a court-ordered savings package.

Trump Entertainment Resorts says it will close Trump Taj Mahal on December 12th if Local 54 of the Unite Here Union does not drop an appeal of a court-ordered savings package. The union is appealing a bankruptcy court order that terminated the union contract, canceling health insurance and pension benefits. If the appeal is not withdrawn by the end of the month, the Taj Mahal will close and another 3,000 employees will be without a job. The company says relief from health insurance and pension costs, which a bankruptcy court judge granted last month, is necessary to keep the casino open. Some union members traveled to Trenton earlier today to ask for the support of state lawmakers.
