Is it possible to celebrate the holidays without adding a few extra pounds?

According to  research, most of us never loose the holiday weight we pack on. Here are some tips from Web MD on avoiding holiday weight gain.

1. Never Go To a Holiday Party or Dinner Hungry.  Try eating a healthy snack before you arrive. If you do arrive on an empty stomach, try drinking water before you stuff yourself.

2. Chew Slowly. Pacing yourself and chewing slowly will put you more in control of your appetite.

3. Use a Smaller Plate for Christmas Buffets. Stack up on fruits, vegetables, and shrimp cocktail. Watch for sauces and dips. Try not to stack your food on your plate.

4. Watch Your Consumption of Alcohol.   You may loose control of your appetite if you don't limit your alcohol. Club soda or water is good alternative for a choice of drink.

5. Limit the Christmas Sweets and Desserts.  This may be the hardest to avoid. Be very selective and keep portions small when it comes to treats and chocolate goodies.
