When in doubt for lunch, just go with a hoagie. This Saturday May 5th, the hoagie is the star as we celebrate National Hoagie Day. One hoagie chain will also recognize the day by giving back to the heroes of the community.

The hoagie is also referred to as a sub or a hero. According to National Day Calendar, the hoagie first came to life in 1953 as workers in a shipyard located in Philadelphia began to put all kinds of  meats, cheeses, and lettuce between two slices of bread. The shipyard in Philly was known as Hog Island, and the sandwich was named after the location which ultimately was shortened to "hoagie"!

According to QSR.com, Primo Hoagies will be serving one of America's favorite sandwich to those who help keep us safe in our community, including the brave men and women serving in our local fire and police departments. Also, nurses, doctors and veterinarians that keep us and our four legged friends healthy and happy.

The hoagie chain will also offer specials and promotions on line and at all locations. South Jersey locations include: EHT, Galloway, Ocean City, Sea isle City, Hammonton, Vineland, Avalon, Rio Grande, Wildwood Crest and N. Wildwood.
