The First Thing We Should Do Each Day

OlgaMiltsova – ThinkStock

It is no surprise that the number one new year’s resolution is to lose weight and eat better. That should include taking time to eat a healthier breakfast.  But, sometimes breakfast can be the last thing on our mind in the morning before heading out the door.

Either you slept in, you’re running late or just didn’t feel hungry – but you have heard it before –  breakfast is the most important meal of the day. Let’s put it this way, you would not drive your car without gas in the tank.  After you we have been asleep without anything in our system, our body needs the nutrients and energy of a good breakfast to get  going. Many studies have linked eating breakfast to good health, including better memory and concentration, lower levels of “bad” LDL cholesterol, and lower chances of getting diabetes, heart disease, and being overweight.  Without food in the morning, our body’s metabolism slows and we can end up famished at later in the day, leading to overeating.

Make breakfast mandatory! Make it something exciting that you can look forward to for when you wake up. If breakfast can be a challenge for you, here are some easy and healthy ways to start your day.

Cereal and milk

Whoever’s idea it was to put massive amounts of sugar in cereal has started a dangerous trend that you should strive to not be a part of. Instead, look for cheerios or most Special K brand’s as healthy alternatives – and always with skim milk.

Breakfast Bar

If you’re on the run or not hungry, this is the most logical option for you. It’s quick, easy and small. Be sure to read the label to make sure what you’re eating is actually nutritious as well. Sugar should not one of the top ingredients.

Yogurt with Fruit

Fresh fruit is a classic breakfast.. Mix it in with some low fat yogurt, and you have yourself a great start to the morning!

Eggs are one of the most versatile foods you could eat. As long as you are frying them in tons of oil or butter, they are one of your best breakfast choices.Eggs contains 13 essential nutrients including plenty of protein that means you’ll feel fuller for longer after having your breakfast. Simply including one egg with your breakfast, perhaps with a piece of whole grain toast, can make you feel much fuller for longer, and help you stop snacking mid-morning.
