National Women’s Health Week is May 8-14. This week is about empowering women to make our health a priority. Wondering what you can do? Make the pledge to take one step to living a healthier life.Start with  three main aspects of heath – physical health, mental health and safety.  When it comes to our physical health, be sure to get your annual wellness visit, stay up to date on your screening tests and, of course, make an effort to eat healthier and get some physical activity most days of the week. For mental health, find positive ways to manage stress and never underestimate the power of a good night sleep.  Finally, practice common sense safety such as avoiding distracted or impaired driving, wearing a seat belt or bike helmet and being aware of your surroundings, especially when you are alone. If all of this sounds like a lot, break it down into smaller pieces and make one change at a time.  When it comes to achieving anything, follow the ancient Chinese saying -  A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.

A really terrific website is women'shealth.gov. Right on their home page, they encourage us to make the National Women’s Health Pledge to take at least one step for better health. We can also find news and updates, A to Z health topics for women of all ages, and a ton of advice on how to get healthier. They also have easy to use resources for social media and ideas on how to organize events or activities.   It really is a very thorough site.  Check it out.
