With high pressure in control of New Jersey's atmosphere, our weather will remain quite pleasant for much of the final week of June.

Here are your weather headlines for Monday, June 26, 2017...

Weekend Recap

The weekend certainly started off eventful, as a line of severe thunderstorms dropped 2 tornadoes in Howell, a 75 mph microburst in Browns Mills, and a widespread mess of downed trees and power outages across the state.

Of course, after about 9 a.m. Saturday, sunshine, warmth, and decreasing humidity made for some spectacular summer weather!

The big weather story of the week will be a big dome of high pressure that slowly slides toward, over, and away from New Jersey. That will keep humidity low for the next several days, and therefore will keep our weather pleasant through at least midweek.

Monday is starting off with temperatures in the 50s across most of New Jersey, with 60s along the coast. Skies will be mostly sunny and dry from start to finish on Monday, with one exception: NW NJ could see a quick shower.

High temperatures will end up a bit cooler than Sunday and below normal for late June, by about 5 degrees. We'll see upper 70s to lower 80s across the Garden State on Monday.

A few clouds will roll through the sky on Tuesday and it will become breezy. High temperatures will be limited to the upper 70s to maybe 80 degrees.

There might be enough lift on Tuesday to spawn a shower or thunderstorm anywhere in the state. But should an area of rain popup, it will be isolated — most of us will stay completely dry.

Wednesday will continue this stretch of beautiful weather, with sunshine and highs near 80 once again.

Increasing Clouds, Temps, Humidity

Changes begin on Thursday, as moisture begins pumping back into the atmosphere. That will lead to increased cloud cover and increased "stickiness" too. Thursday will also be warmer and breezier than the previous several days, with highs bumping into the mid 80s (probably into the upper 80s for SW NJ).

The final day of June, on Friday, will be very warm and very humid, with high temperatures near 90 degrees across inland New Jersey. We also have to introduce a chance for scattered shower and thunderstorms to the forecast starting on Friday.

The preview for the start of the 4th of July holiday weekend shows steamy, unsettled weather for Friday, Saturday, and Sunday (at least). High humidity and afternoon temps near 90 degrees will join occasional showers and storms to make for an imperfect forecast. You'll want to keep your barbecue and fireworks plans flexible for now — we'll have a better sense for when you might dodge raindrops later in the week.
