It’s just the way life goes - the foods we like most are usually the ones that are the worst for us and sugar is no exception. One of the reasons that added sugars are harmful is increased inflammation that can lead to disease.  Too much sugar can actually affect  our brain, heart, joints and kidneys and,believe it or not, it can even affect intimacy with our partner.

Calories from sugar are empty calories because there is no nutritional value. Plus there is no protein or fiber, so it doesn’t fill you up and actually makes you hungry for more sugar.  It also triggers the release of insulin, a hormone that plays a big role in weight gain and diabetes. The American Heart Association recommends  no more than 9 teaspoons for men and 6 teaspoons for women each day.  To put that in perspective, an average regular soda has about 8 teaspoons of sugar.
