Stockton’s Controlled Burn Cancelled Because of Actual Wildfire

The controlled burn we've been telling you about on Lite Rock and literock969.com that was scheduled for Wednesday afternoon in the forest around Stockton University was cancelled because of an actual wildfire burning close-by.

A fire in Port Republic burned 50 acres of brush and marsh just west of the southbound side of the Garden State Parkway, according to the Press of Atlantic City.

The controlled burn was planned by the state Department of Environmental Protection to thin out over 6 acres of over-brush and trees promoting a healthier forest and reducing the possibility of wildfires.

Plans for that controlled burn in the forest around Stockton are now scrubbed as the "controlled burn season" ends April 1st, with wildfire season peaking in April and May.
