2 men - including a New Jersey State Trooper -  are dead following a 2 car head-on crash on Route 55, just before 7pm last evening.

According to New Jersey State Police, the accident happened in Millville near the 22.2 milepost, when a car crossed the grass median, and struck a State Patrol Trooper head-on.

Trooper Frankie Williams, 31,  of Atlantic County, was traveling in a marked patrol car, responding to a call for service, when his vehicle was struck by the other driver.

The other driver, who has not been identified, was pronounced dead at the scene. Trooper Williams was flown to Cooper University Hospital in Camden where he was pronounced dead.

According to a release from the New Jersey State Police,

Trooper Frankie Williams, 31 years old, of Atlantic County, was a member of the 156th State Police Class, which graduated January 29, 2016. He was assigned to Port Norris Station.

The accident remains under investigation.
