The Philadelphia area is one step closer to having yet another casino, this time near the big sports stadiums in South Philly.

Keystone State gambling regulators met today and awarded the last casino license available in eastern Pennsylvania to Live! Hotel & Casino, which is a joint venture between Cordish Companies of Baltimore and Greenwood Gaming and Entertainment.

This fifth Philly-area casino comes as Atlantic City is about to see its fifth casino, Trump Taj Mahal, close next month, leaving another 3,000 workers without employment right before the holidays.

The new casino is planned for 900 Packer Avenue in South Philadelphia, which is right off of the Schuylkill Expressway, and is just one block from Citizen's Bank Park. Upon completion, the Holiday Inn by the stadiums will be remodeled and become the hotel tower for the casino, which will also feature half-a-dozen restaurants, 2,000 slot machines, over 100 table games, and a concert theater.
