Somers Point Man to Spend Life Behind Bars for 2016 Murder
Back on September 1st, 2016, officers responded to Atlantic City Outlets The Walk where a man had been shot in the Zumiez Store. The victim, identified as 26-year-old Christopher Romero of Absecon, was taken to ARMC-City where he was pronounced dead. 56-year-old Luis Maisonet of Somers Point, who was identified as the shooter, fled the scene, and suffered a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
This past Friday, Maisonet was sentenced to life in prison and he will not be eligible for parole for 65 years.
In a press release, Atlantic County Prosecutor Damon G. Tyner said Maisonet callously killed Christopher Romero in front of several witnesses, and threatened other lives through his selfish, cowardly actions and at trial he showed no remorse. “I am hopeful that Christopher Romero’s family can take solace in knowing that the person responsible for taking their loved one away from them will never get out of prison alive,” said Tyner.
Maisonet was found guilty by a jury in December of murder, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, aggravated assault by pointing a firearm at a person, unlawful possession of a firearm, and possession of a firearm by a convicted person.
