Six Flags Great Adventure has just been award the prestigious Zoological Association of America Education Award of Excellence for three of its animal education programs!

“We are extremely honored to receive this award," ” said Dr. Bill Rives, director and chief veterinarian for Six Flags Great Adventure. "As stewards of the environment, our goal is to help ensure the survival of these amazing species for generations to come, and our passion for education is inspiring children and adults alike to better care for the world around us."

So which three programs are a must for you to check out? Take a look below!

1. Safari Off Road Education

The 510-acre safari is offered as a guided tour which provides access to 1,200 animals from six continents! Attendees will head through the Safari Off Road Adventure, Seafari Stadium and Camp Aventura where conservation, diet and natural environments for various species will be taught. Plus, you get to touch reptiles and snakes and hand-feed a giraffe!

2. Wild Encounters

This animal outreach program offers three programs that teach about animals’ characteristics, habitats, history and diets while showcasing live, exotic animals and their expert caretakers: Fur, Feathers and Scales for grades K through 5; Behind the Biology for grades 6 through 8, and a customized program. Animal educators present a variety of exotic birds, reptiles and mammals. Participants catch an up-close glimpse of animals such as a two-toed sloth, Moluccan cockatoo and blue-tongued skink, and even touch animals like the black and white tegu and red-tailed boa constrictor.

3. Silver Safari

This exciting education program is geared toward adults age 55+ (sorry kids) who want to tour the world’s animals and gain a close-up encounter at their own pace. Guests board open-air Safari trucks with a personal tour guide on days when the theme park is closed for a more personalized experience. Safari staff work to accommodate all activity levels, provide door-to-truck service with minimal walking required, and trucks that can accommodate wheelchairs. Silver Safari Tours are available on non-operating days in the fall.
