A female chef has been named the South Jersey Chef of the Year for the first time. The Sheraton Atlantic City's Executive Chef Pam Green was honored as Chef of The Year by The Professional Chefs Association of South Jersey at last month's Annual President's Charity Scholarship Ball.

In addition to being a top quality chef, Chef Green was recognized by the organization for being a tireless volunteer of her time and talents with the Professional Chefs Association of South Jersey, according to an event press release. Chef Green is well respected by her peers and regarded highly throughout the community, earning her standing applause from all 350 attendees of the gala as she was awarded Chef of The Year.

Green, now in her 17th year as Executive Chef at the Sheraton Atlantic City Convention Center Hotel, oversees all culinary operations and staffing for the business and leisure resort hotel.

Green said she never planned on being a chef and credits her success on being mentored by some of the best chefs in the area. All of her culinary training has been on the job. She began cooking dinners at home in North Wildwood at the age of 10. Her first opportunity to cook outside the home was when she was working as a pantry person and one of the cooks did not show up for work. Green was asked if she could do the job.

Professionally she has held positions at various South Jersey restaurants and came to Atlantic City to work for the Claridge Casino. Shortly thereafter she was recruited by Caesars to become a sous chef and after 18 months Green was promoted and became the only female executive sous chef in an Atlantic City Casino. In 2001, she moved to the Sheraton and became the first female Executive Chef in Atlantic City.

Congratulations to one of the great chefs of South Jersey, the Sheraton's Executive Chef, Pam Green!
