Sunday night's snowfall caused a fatal accident on a South Jersey highway. A motorist is dead after police say a car crashed into a salt truck on a South Jersey highway early Monday morning.

According to NBC10 Philadelphia, police said the crash happened just before 2 a.m. in the southbound lanes of Route 55 near exit 35 in Vineland. A man driving a car crashed into a salt truck. That driver, police said, was pronounced dead at the scene.

State Police said the crash occurred around 1:50 a.m. when Michael Bennett, 32, of Sea Isle City, struck the struck, which was traveling at 25 mph and spreading salt. The roadway was wet, police said.

NBC10 Philadelphia reports that the driver of the salt truck was taken to an area hospital to be treated for minor injuries.

Police shut a stretch of Route 55 down Monday morning as they investigated the deadly crash. The road was reopened by 6:30 a.m.
