Sacked! Trump Cancels Eagles White House Invite
President Trump has disinvited the Philadelphia Eagles to visit the White House, in celebration of their Super Bowl victory. The team was scheduled to meet the president on the South Lawn at 3pm Tuesday.
Several Eagles players, including safety Malcolm Jenkins and defensive end Chris Long, had made it clear that they would not attend, in protest to Trump and the NFL's recent decision mandating players on the field stand for the national anthem before games.
According to the Philadelphia Inquirer, Torrey Smith, who was traded from the Eagles to the Panthers in the offseason, shared his thoughts on Twitter shortly after the news broke. “So many lies,” he said. “No one refused to go simply because Trump ‘insists’ folks stand for the anthem.”
