Every Thursday morning at 7:15am on the Lite Rock Morning Show, the Humane Society of Ocean City brings in the new Lite Rock Pet of the Week.

If you are thinking about adding a pet to your family, please consider adopting from the Humane Society of Ocean City, a no-kill shelter recognized as one of the nation’s top ten animal shelters.

All of the animals are spayed/neutered, vaccinated and micro-chipped before adoption. All animals also receive an Alumni Card which entitles them to a 10% lifetime discount for veterinary services at the Humane Society of Ocean City clinic.

This week we met Riley the dog…

Here is some information on Riley from the Humane Society of Ocean City:

“Riley is a male Shar-pei/Pittie mix, Brindle-coated, 2 yrs old, with a snoot soft and mushy like a marshmallow! Confident, playful, outgoing, and attentive, Riley is a wonderful companion pooch who is full of energy, love, and snuggles.

He loves running in the yard playing fetch and tug, walks around the neighborhood, and snuggling on the couch with you. Riley is intelligent—he learns fast—highly trainable and already has good domestic social skills, walks good on-leash, and even knows a few tricks!

Riley has been through a few homes in his short life, as those were folks who were unable to meet his needs. Too often he was left in a crate all day (8-10 hrs/day) and again through all the night; as a result he gets highly stressed when confined. He has NOT shown separation anxiety behaviors—he just hates being stuck in a crate away from everyone.

Riley is looking for a home where he can have plenty of attention, rarely to be left alone and stuck in a box. He needs good exercise/play time as he is young and energetic; he is an attention hound, and craves your company more than anything—except perhaps nom-noms! A high-fenced (5’+) yard is required and/or appropriate confined areas to run and play in.

He should be fine with other dogs and kids teenaged and up, visit depending; doggie meet n greets are also required and are by appt. only. All our animals are S/N, UTD, & micro-chipped."

If you would like to visit Riley or need more information about any animal up for adoption at The Humane Society of Ocean City, call 609-398-9500 or stop in any day between 11a-3p.

To adopt from the HSOC you will need one form of identification, which includes your name, permanent address and proof of ownership (i.e., local tax stub). If you rent, written approval from your landlord is required as well as personal identification. The adoption fee is $50.00 for cats or kittens and $85 for dogs, adults and puppies.

They accept cash, Visa, MasterCard, Discover and debit cards. Checks are accepted upon management’s approval. All adoptions include spay/neuter surgery, microchip if requested, free first vet exam, and all necessary vaccinations through the first year. Adoption applications are available at the shelter.
