A friend recently told me he would probably never get another pet because he gets too attached to them.  Well, isn't that the whole idea of getting a pet in the first place?  We all get attached to our pets, right?  If you don't get attached, then you really shouldn't own a pet.

Pets become part of your family.  That's why it's so hard to lose a pet.  But if we were all worried about saying goodbye to our pets, we might never adopt another one.  And there never seems to be a shortage of animals to adopt.  Just visit your local shelter and you will see what I mean.  The Humane Society of Ocean City has always been my favorite.  All of my pets came from the adoption center there, and a few years ago I started using their veterinary center as well.  The staff is wonderful and they go above and beyond.

When I said goodbye to my cat Jasmine almost sixteen years ago, I wasn't sure I could ever get another pet again.  But my kids (who were little at the time) soon convinced me to adopt not just one, but two kittens.  Russell and Regis quickly became part of the family and literally grew up with my kids.

Then last week we suddenly had to say goodbye to Regis.  Since then even his pal/partner-in-crime Russell seems sad.  But as painful as it is, the happiness he brought us all far outweighs the pain.  Thanks for fifteen years of fun memories, Reeg.  :)
