The Polar Vortex has made an unwelcome return to South Jersey.

The Polar Vortex is a large pocket of bitter cold air above the Northern Hemisphere. Get ready for bitterly cold temperatures for most of the week. It will even feel colder at night when you factor in the wind chill.

South Jersey also experienced the first snowfall of 2015.  Accumlations range from 1 to 2 inches. The snow is causing slick and slippery road conditions.

Here are some tips to keep warm:

Wear layers of lightweight but warm, loose-fitting clothes.

Wear mittens instead of gloves. They will keep your hands warmer.

Cover your mouth to protect your lungs.

Wearing a  hat will keep you warmer.

More helpful tips:

Keep all  pets inside.

Stay inside as much as you can.

Limit travel. If you have to travel be sure to keep a winter survival kit in your car. Check your air pressure on your tires and make sure your heater and defroster are working properly.

Make sure you know how to shut off water valves in case your pipes freeze and burst.

Temps should warm up for this weekend… Stay safe and warm!
