Every Thursday morning at 7:15am on the Lite Rock Morning Show, the Humane Society of Ocean City brings in the new Lite Rock Pet of the Week.

If you are thinking about adding a pet to your family, please consider adopting from the Humane Society of Ocean City, a no-kill shelter recognized as one of the nation’s top ten animal shelters.

All of the animals are spayed/neutered, vaccinated and micro-chipped before adoption. All animals also receive an Alumni Card which entitles them to a 10% lifetime discount for veterinary services at the Humane Society of Ocean City clinic.

This week we met “Chip” the cat.

Here’s a little background info on Chip from the Humane Society of Ocean City…

"Chip is a 6-year-old neutered male. He is silver tiger cat and he has been de-clawed in the front. Chip would prefer a home without children. He is okay with other cats, and, although he has never been around dogs, he might do well with them too.

Surrendered because of allergies, Chip is a very sweet cat but is shy. He has a difficult time adjusting to change in his environment and new people but once hes comfortable his wonderful personality shines through.

Meee-ow! Hey there! I'm "Chip"! My human friends say that I am a declawed, silver-tiger striped, boy kitty with the mesmerizing eyes! I am only six-years old, and yes, looking for a great forever home. I am hoping that this forever home will stick. My last set of parents had to give me up due to allergies.

I am a rather shy boy, so getting used to being in their household even took some getting used to. See, kitties like me who have had their claws removed seem to have a rough time with all things emotional, and even some litter types. Some experts say that some of us find the litter to irritate our poor, little, scarred up paws. Potty matters I am fine with but, the emotional aspects that plague declawed cats I find harder to deal with.

As I mentioned I am a shy fellow. However, once I get to know both human and furry friends I am a bit of a social butterfly. I talk, and even enjoy being held! Hey, it wasn't my fault that my paws were messed with!

I am a silver coated sweetie! My forever home should only have one requirement, with no young kids! A wallflower cat by nature, busy moving young ones will just make me never come out of my shell.

If you think that I am the kitty you would like to call your own, stop by soon to see me! Until then, meow!"

If you would like to visit Chip or need more information about any animal up for adoption at The Humane Society of Ocean City, call 609-399-2018 or stop in any day between 11a-3p.

To adopt from the HSOC you will need one form of identification, which includes your name, permanent address and proof of ownership (i.e., local tax stub). If you rent, written approval from your landlord is required as well as personal identification.

The adoption fee is $50.00 for cats or kittens and $85 for dogs, adults and puppies. We accept cash, Visa, MasterCard, Discover and debit cards. Checks are accepted upon management’s approval. All adoptions include spay/neuter surgery, microchip if requested, free first vet exam, and all necessary vaccinations through the first year. Adoption applications are available at the shelter.
