Every Thursday morning at 7:15am on the Lite Rock Morning Show, the Humane Society of Ocean City brings in the new Lite Rock Pet of the Week.

If you are thinking about adding a pet to your family, please consider adopting from the Humane Society of Ocean City, a no-kill shelter recognized as one of the nation’s top ten animal shelters.

All of the animals are spayed/neutered, vaccinated and micro-chipped before adoption. All animals also receive an Alumni Card which entitles them to a 10% lifetime discount for veterinary services at the Humane Society of Ocean City clinic.

This week we met “Ruby” the cat.

Here’s a little background info on Ruby from the Humane Society of Ocean City…

“Ruby is a one-year-old long-haired black spayed female cat. she will probably work out with other cats, but no dogs or kids. She is playful but shy. It will be some work to acclimate to a home, but she will be forever grateful. Ruby has lots of potential to be a wonderful companion, she just needs a chance to shine.

Ruby says..." Do you like pretty, pretty, kitties? Well, I am not a very prideful cat but, most say that I am quite the gorgeous girl! I'm "Ruby", and my beauty is more than a gem on just the outside. See, I am a sweet, gentle girl kitty on the inside too! I was a stray that was brought to the H.S.O.C., along with my dear babies. I raised up that litter, and even fostered another bunch to boot!

Through all of this transition I have maintained my loveable demeanor. My friends here at the shelter feel that I must be no older than one-year old. My coat is a super, shiny, medium length, solid black. Oh, and my size is just like a doll! I am kind of a small cat, and love to get pets on my head and belly till the cows come home.

However, even though my personality and looks are worth shouting from the rooftops, I am rather shy at first. This probably is due to the fact that I never had a proper home before I was brought in. With all this being said my fabulous future home only has a few requirements, in that the family who takes me loves me and is patient.

I was in a foster home with other cats, and have found making feline friends here a breeze! Whatever home is lucky enough to welcome me, if they are persistent they will just love how wonderful a girl I really am! Sounds great, huh? Well, don't wait too long to see me for yourself!"
