Every Thursday morning at 7:15am on the Lite Rock Morning Show, the Humane Society of Ocean City brings in the new Lite Rock Pet of the Week.

If you are thinking about adding a pet to your family, please consider adopting from the Humane Society of Ocean City, a no-kill shelter recognized as one of the nation’s top ten animal shelters.

All of the animals are spayed/neutered, vaccinated and micro-chipped before adoption. All animals also receive an Alumni Card which entitles them to a 10% lifetime discount for veterinary services at the Humane Society of Ocean City clinic.

This week we met “Joey” the dog.

Here’s a little background info on Joey from the Humane Society of Ocean City…

“Have you ever wanted a friend that is wise and oh, so funny looking that they were cute? Well, your search may be over! Hi, I'm "Joey"! You can call me "Joe"! Oh, and yes I'm a girl. I guess my name is short for "Joanne". Either way, I am a doggie that has been around the block a time or two but, could use another time around the block so to speak! I am a ten-year old Cockapoo, girl dog who was tearfully surrendered by my owner when she no longer could care for me. As far as my looks I am a solid but, small dog with fur that is on the road to recovery. I was far from glamorous when I arrived, and was very much matted from head to paw. Some kind volunteers who also were professional groomers, lovingly trimmed away my sad, old coat. Like a phoenix they revealed the funny looking but, very much relieved little dog I am now! Before I got to go to the doggie spa I did visit the vet, and she found that my one eye is blind, and that I have Cushings disease. I will probably need monitoring and medicine for the remainder of my golden years. Please don't write me off as unlovable or unadoptable! I certainly have not! I have so many wonderful qualities to share. I light up when you talk to me and pet my dear, little head. I enjoy going for walkies, and just hanging out with my buddies. Small children seem to unnerve me some, maybe due to my poor eyesight. I have been around nearly all sorts of critters, and people my whole life. Truth is for a senior lady such as myself, I have a pretty gosh, darn adaptable personality! Hey, come to think of it I am pretty cool! Come and see me soon if you think I can be your new, funny faced, friend!"

If you would like to visit Joey or need more information about any animal up for adoption at The Humane Society of Ocean City, call 609-399-2018 or stop in any day between 11a-3p.

To adopt from the HSOC you will need one form of identification, which includes your name, permanent address and proof of ownership (i.e., local tax stub). If you rent, written approval from your landlord is required as well as personal identification.

The adoption fee is $50.00 for cats or kittens and $85 for dogs, adults and puppies. We accept cash, Visa, MasterCard, Discover and debit cards. Checks are accepted upon management’s approval. All adoptions include spay/neuter surgery, microchip if requested, free first vet exam, and all necessary vaccinations through the first year. Adoption applications are available at the shelter.
