An area of tight rotation over the southern half of Long Beach Island drifted over the Atlantic Ocean soon after the warning was issued, at 1:35 am, but it is possible that a tornado or waterspout developed briefly.

The alert was issued by the National Weather Service in Mount Holly after a strong storm with rotation was indicated on Doppler radar.  The communities of Beach Haven, Tuckerton, North Beach Haven, Surf City, and Harvey Cedars were included in the warning area.

There were no reports of damage or funnel cloud sightings in the area. If evidence arises that a tornado did occur, the National Weather Service will conduct an on-site storm survey and release additional details later today.

The storms overnight also brought upwards of an inch of rain as well as wind gusts over 40 miles per hour to parts of New Jersey.

Today’s forecast is for mostly sunny skies, with only an isolated shower possible this afternoon.
