SoJO 104.9 has learned that the fiery crash that shut down I-78 last week took the lives of a couple on the way to their wedding weekend.

It's almost too heartbreaking to put into words.

Kathryn Schurtz and her fiance Joseph Kearney, both of Jersey City, were on their way to Kearney's hometown of Pittsburgh where they were set to marry, when they were involved in a multi-vehicle crash in Berks County kicked off by a tractor trailer this past Wednesday, 6abc.com reports. The roadway was shut down for nearly 12-hours as police investigated and crews worked to repair the scene.

Schurtz is a 2001 graduate of Union Catholic High School in Scotch Plains.

Her obituary, published by obits.nj.com, reads, "[Kathryn] will be remembered for her voracious appetite for reading, love of cooking, and trailblazing new adventures with Joseph."
