The Federal Emergency Management released new preliminary maps yesterday for Cape May County. The new maps meant good news to bayfront owners, builders and rebuilders. The new maps feature around an 80 percent reduction in the highest risk velocity zone or V-Zone compared to the controversial advisory base flood elevation maps released this past December.

Homes in the designated V-Zone must be built on piling foundations in order to receive the lowest flood insurance rates.

The new preliminary maps released yesterday automatically become the new state standard for building and rebuilding also, selling a house may also become easier.

FEMA will release the next versions of preliminary maps sometime late summer or fall and there could be small changes...
