Every Thursday morning at 7:15am on the Lite Rock Morning Show, the Humane Society of Ocean City brings in the new Lite Rock Pet of the Week.

If you are thinking about adding a pet to your family, please consider adopting from the Humane Society of Ocean City, a no-kill shelter recognized as one of the nation’s top ten animal shelters.

All of the animals are spayed/neutered, vaccinated and micro-chipped before adoption. All animals also receive an Alumni Card which entitles them to a 10% lifetime discount for veterinary services at the Humane Society of Ocean City clinic.

This week we met Miles the cat…

Here is some information on Miles from the Humane Society of Ocean City:

“Miles is a stunning solid black domestic long-haired cat with striking green yellow eyes. He is estimated to be about 9 years old.

Miles was recently returned to the shelter along with his 2 feline roommates, Posey and Penny. His owner had recently been hospitalized and was going to require extended stays in the future. He felt as though he could not take proper care of his faithful companions any longer and chose to surrender them to us.

All three cats were adopted from the HSOC at different times over the years. Posey and Penny were only kittens when they were adopted. Miles, however, was a mature adult and had lived at the HSOC for over 1 year until he was adopted in 2016. His life before arriving at the shelter wasn't easy. He was originally brought to Ocean City by seasonal people that left him behind when they went home in the fall every year. He had to fend for himself in the winter with some help from human friends. Then, his owner would return in the summer only to leave him behind for the winter. This ritual went on many years.

One day, Animal Control was trapping for a critter that was living under a house of an Ocean City resident but instead we caught Miles. Further inquiry of the neighborhood by Animal Control Officers gave us the details of his history.

Currently, Miles awaits his new forever home. His plush, long fur requires daily brushing or monthly professional grooming. He's affectionate and is a great lap cat. Miles would do best in a low to medium activity household. He is good with other cats and maybe okay with feline friendly dogs. Small children may be too active for Miles but kids over 10 should be fine, visit depending. Consider adopting Miles!"
