Every Thursday morning at 7:15am on the Lite Rock Morning Show, the Humane Society of Ocean City brings in the new Lite Rock Pet of the Week.

If you are thinking about adding a pet to your family, please consider adopting from the Humane Society of Ocean City, a no-kill shelter recognized as one of the nation’s top ten animal shelters.
All of the animals are spayed/neutered, vaccinated and micro-chipped before adoption. All animals also receive an Alumni Card which entitles them to a 10% lifetime discount for veterinary services at the Humane Society of Ocean City clinic.

This week we met Mia the cat....
Here is some information on Mia from the Humane Society of Ocean City:
“Mia is an adorable black and white domestic short-haired cat. She is approximately 2 to 3 years old.
Mia was brought to the shelter by a girl that claimed she found her in Ocean City and brought her home only to find out that her landlord wouldn't allow her to keep her. Mia's left ear was tipped. This is a sign that Mia had been trapped, spayed and then released outside. Cats with ear tips are often feral and unlikely to get picked up by a person. While Mia is shy at first, she is not unfriendly. However, she does not like to be held, so it's unclear exactly how the girl could have picked her up. She declined to give us any further information though.
Whatever the story really may be doesn't matter because Mia will make a wonderful indoor pet and doesn't deserve to live her life outside. She is very friendly and affectionate once she gets to know you. When arriving at the shelter Mia was scared and timid towards staff. As the days went on, she became more curious of us and would peek her head around the corner of her cage to see what you were doing. As soon as you looked at her, she quickly moved away. Now, she rolls upside down to offer her furry belly. She can often be found napping with her head on a stuffed animal using it as a pillow. She is also playful and quite comical at times.
Mia is sweet but would probably prefer the company of adults and children over 12. Mia can be handled but does not like to be cuddled or held for long. This is unlikely to change much so her new owner must be okay with that. Mia seems as though she would be fine with other cats and okay with feline friendly dogs. With a little patience, Mia would make a wonderful addition to a low to moderately active household."

If you would like to visit Mia or need more information about any animal up for adoption at The Humane Society of Ocean City, call 609-398-9500 or stop in any day between 11a-3p. All doggie meet-n-greets are by appointment only.

To adopt from the HSOC you will need one form of identification, which includes your name, permanent address and proof of ownership (i.e., local tax stub). If you rent, written approval from your landlord is required as well as personal identification. The adoption fee is $50.00 for cats or kittens and $85 for dogs, adults and puppies.
They accept cash, Visa, MasterCard, Discover and debit cards. Checks are accepted upon management’s approval. All adoptions include spay/neuter surgery, microchip if requested, free first vet exam, and all necessary vaccinations through the first year. Adoption applications are available at the shelter.
