Every Thursday morning at 7:15am on the Lite Rock Morning Show, the Humane Society of Ocean City brings in the new Lite Rock Pet of the Week.

If you are thinking about adding a pet to your family, please consider adopting from the Humane Society of Ocean City, a no-kill shelter recognized as one of the nation’s top ten animal shelters.

All of the animals are spayed/neutered, vaccinated and micro-chipped before adoption. All animals also receive an Alumni Card which entitles them to a 10% lifetime discount for veterinary services at the Humane Society of Ocean City clinic.

This week we met "Melody" the cat.…

Here is some information on Melody from the Humane Society of Ocean City:

“Melody is sweet, petite and ready to meet! She's about 2 years old and is a black and white domestic short haired cat. Melody was dropped off in a feral cat colony while she was pregnant. Someone probably didn't want the burden of having to deal with kittens and thought she would at least get fed at the colony. Sadly, domestic cats don't do well in feral cat colonies. Melody was afraid and stressed and gave birth prematurely. All her kittens died within 24 hours.

The caretaker of the colony temporarily housed her until she was spayed and vaccinated. Unable to find a home, Melody was brought back to the colony. She was extremely intimidated by the other cats and was not thriving in her current living situation. Desperate to get a home, Melody would follow any human that came around and kept wandering further away from the colony. This was a danger to her safety. The HSOC was finally contacted for help and we took her in when we had space. Here, she awaits her forever home. Grateful to be inside and cared for, Melody will show her appreciation by giving a very strong head butt for such a little girl.

She is affectionate but will get over stimulated easily and can give soft love bites. This should get better as she becomes secure and gets regular attention in her new home. Melody is not good with other cats but may be okay with dogs. She probably would do best with children 10 or older and a calm to moderately active househol
