Medical Pot Goes on Sale in EHT

Medical marijuana is now on sale in South Jersey.  The much-delayed Compassionate Care Foundation finally opened its doors in Egg Harbor Township today, more than a year later than originally expected.

The Press of Atlantic City reports that Compassionate Care Foundation CEO Bill Thomas says 600 patients are registered so farwith the facility and 200 appointments have been set up for the disbursement of medical pot.

The state legalized medical marijuana in 2010 for patients with debilitating conditions such as terminal cancer.  Regulations require that a doctor approve the treatment.

More than 1300 patients have signed up for the program so far, and the state's only other facility providing marijuana, in Essex County, often has insufficient supplies.

Compassionate Care Foundation, at 100 Century Drive in Egg Harbor Township, is using using a former Trump Casino warehouse in the Offshore Commercial Park as their headquarters.  Officials there are quick to point out it is a secure facility and work-up business is not allowed.

Thomas says the center has more than 1000 ounces on hand and expects to produce 300 to 400 more in the coming weeks.

Medical marijuana will be packaged in 1/8 and 1/4 ounce denominations. The patient’s physician will determine the proper dosage; however, the maximum amount allowed by law is 2 ounces in a 30 day period.
