The New Jersey Department of Health has revealed six medical marijuana dispensaries it picked to add to the state's program. Two of the six are in South Jersey.

According to NJ.com, MPX New Jersey was chosen to open a cultivation facility in Galloway Township and a dispensary in Atlantic City. In Cumberland County, Columbia Care New Jersey was chosen to open a facility in Vineland. Other chosen locations were in Phillipsburg, Paterson, Rahway/Elizabeth, and Ewing.

Should these six new facilities open, it would double the number of medical marijuana program participants to twelve, joining existing centers in Egg Harbor Township, Montclair, Woodbridge, Cranbury, Secaucus and Bellmawr.

The state announced in July that it would seek six new operators. 146 applications from 106 organizations were submitted by the August 31st deadline.

“That’s a shocking number,” said Scott Rudder, president of the New Jersey Cannabusiness Association. “I’ve got to tell you, that number is very high. It’s a very exciting time here in New Jersey.”
