Monty Fresco/Evening Standard/Getty Images[/caption]Has it really been forty years since Bruce Springsteen's album "Born to Run" was released??  Yep!!  That's four decades!  And chances are (if you've been around as long as I have), you had that album in your collection.  "Born to Run" is a classic and my fave Springsteen album.  But it wasn't his first studio album.  It was actually his third.  And it still sounds as good today as it did forty years ago.

The title track became an anthem for Springsteen.  And not only was the album a commercial success, the critics loved it too.  It made a name for Springsteen as a working-class hero who was just like one of us.  He was a good 'ole boy from New Jersey who sang honest songs that touched so many of us.  And he was known for always giving concert-goers their money's worth...and then some.  He was also known for showing up unexpectedly at small bars in New Jersey and jamming with local bands.  In fact, he still pops up and does surprise shows, to the delight of his fans...old and new.  I keep hoping that one day I will be in the audience at one of his surprise gigs.  How cool would that be??

Until then, I'll just reminisce about all the Bruce concerts I've seen over the years, and I can enjoy my "Born to Run 30th Anniversary Edition" box set, which was released in 2005 (yep, thirty years ago!).  Boy, time sure does fly but one thing's for sure...'Baby, we were born to run...'  :)
