The movie Still Alice is based on the bestselling novel of the same name.  I didn't read the book, but I did read the reviews.  It comes as no surprise that the reviews were very good, especially since Julianne Moore went on to win several awards for her role as Alice.

Dr. Alice Howland is a college professor who is diagnosed with early-onset Alzheimer's disease at the age of 50.  Alec Baldwin plays her husband John, while Kristen Stewart, Kate Bosworth, and Hunter Parrish play her kids.  A well-written script plus a solid cast of actors no doubt should make for a good movie.  And in this case it certainly does.
The movie focuses on Alice's struggle to maintain her lifestyle and dignity in spite of her diagnosis.  It is heartbreaking for her family to watch, but they are strong and determined to help her through it.

If you go see Still Alice, better have the tissues ready.  But while it is sad to watch the progression of this horrible disease, it is encouraging to watch Alice find her own way to deal with it, as she hangs on to wonderful memories for as long as she can.  And although Alice and her family cannot change her fate, they cope with the situation with the one thing they will never lose...love.  :)

Here's a sneak peek of "Still Alice."
