hero30/thinkstock[/caption]'Far From the Madding Crowd' is set in Victorian England.  The main character is Bathsheba Everdene (Carey Mulligan), a headstrong woman who thinks she may be too independent to ever get married.  She is definitely not a typical woman of that era.  As a result of that (or maybe in spite of it), men seem to be drawn to her.  In fact, three different men are interested in her at the same time.  So, what's a woman to do??

Suitor # 1 is Gabriel Oak (Matthias Schoenaerts), a young shepherd.  Suitor # 2 is  William Boldwood (Michael Sheen), an older bachelor who is very prosperous but lonely.  Suitor # 3 is Sergeant Francis "Frank" Troy (Tom Sturridge), a dashing soldier.

'Far From a Madding Crowd' may sound like a chick flick, but really it deserves a lot more credit than that.  The plot is interesting and not all that predictable, with a few twists and turns.  And it has a fine cast of actors as well.  So, which suitor (if any) does Bathsheba ultimately choose?  There's only one way to find out.  Go see the movie!  I just did, and I must say I actually loved it.  And despite what you might think, being courted by three different guys does have its share of problems.  All I can say is...it's complicated.  :)
