South Jersey was under a tornado watch and experiencing high winds and rain when the Ocean View Volunteer Fire Company responded about 11pm Wednesday and found eight boats fully engulfed in flames.

Jared Gaccione, the General Manager of Minmar Marine, told the Press of Atlantic City he believed a lighting strike was responsible for the fire. "It's totally hypothetical, but there is no other obvious cause. There were windy, horrible conditions. The weather just went from bad to worse."

Quick work from firefighters is credited with keeping the fire from spreading to 20 other boats in the boatyard. No injuries were reported. The fire remains under investigation.

In addition to the the Ocean View Fire Company, firefighters from Dennis, Seaville, Cape May Court House, Sea Isle City and Belleplain also responded to Wednesday's blaze.
